JULY 2007 923 Greetings All, The first ever Great Cranberry Ultra Marathon is going to be held next Saturday July 28 starting at 11:00am. This event will feature runners from around the USA and Canada who will be competing at 'Ultra Marathon' distances of 50 kilometers - 50 miles or 100 kilometers. We are expecting around 50 runners plus additional family and friends to attend this epic event. We need and encourage your support. Below is a list of things you can do or donate to help make these runners feel welcome on our island and we hope you will in turn inspired by their athletic achievements and dedication. To help keep the runners going during the race we need: Fruit Bagels Bottled Water Sport Drinks Coca Cola To help us put on this event we need: Volunteers: (Please come to start on race morning early or let us know in advance if you are willing to help. Many small jobs can be assigned in advance) Local support: (Houses along the Main Rd are encouraged to make inspirational signs or even play live or recorded music to help motivate the runners for hours and hundreds of miles of running. We hope that islanders will participate by showing enthusiasm for this event using any and all means of 'island creativity" available.) Food: (We are providing lobsters to race participants only but would gladly accept any food donations to help keep runners or family members from being hungry. Bring any donations to the finishing area thru-out the day and evening on Saturday) Weather: (If the weather turns hot if your house is anywhere on the Main Rd please consider setting up a water table or putting a lawn sprinkler out to cool runners) Vehicles: (We need folks with vehicles to help transport runners and their gear from the dock to the starting area. Most will come between 7 and 9 am using regular and special boats out of both NE and SW Harbors. Some will come on the 10am boat so we will need to get them to the start as quickly as possible upon their arrival.
