Historical Pageant NOA MAINE The pageant consists of a procession of historical figures who visited Bar Harbor in the last 330 years. They return to the Island on this day to pay their respects to the Governor of Maine. The group will consist of: I. Indians in native state before the coming of the white men to Mount Desert II. The Discovery of Mount Desert by Champlain - 1604 III. The Arrival of the Jesuits - 1613 IV. The Arrival of Cadillac - 1688 V. Therese De Gregoire, grand-daughter of Cadillac, assumes control of the eastern half of the Island - 1787 VI. The Governors of Maine and Massachusetts meet after the separation of Maine from Massachusetts - 1820 VII. The Advent of the "Rusticators" on Mount Desert in 1855 Day VIII. The Visit of President U. S. Grant - 1873 IX. Resident Bar Harbor life of the period - 1880 X. The Buckboard Era - 1888 XI.
