[Chris Johnston’s] wife was Victoria, first name actually Elizabeth, although she was never called that. Her mother was Elizabeth Hartley nee Eversman. Elizabeth "Betty" Hartley's husband was Harold Hartley. Betty's father was Walter Eversman, and her mother was Grace nee Greenhalgh (pronounced "Greenalch"). Walter Eversman is the one who bought the property on Great Cranberry Island and had the house built in 1939. [The house on Preble Lane]
Walter, Grace, and Betty started coming to Great Cranberry in 1919 (a hundred years ago!) and for many years they rented what is now the Carl Brooks house and took most of their meals at the Mountain View Inn because Grace hated to cook. They also stayed in various inns and took their meals at other homes that provided meals. The Eversman’s caretaker, Henry Louie, worked for Walter and Grace Eversman in many capacities in Toledo, Ohio and he came with them each summer to Cranberry.
